Frequently Asked Questions
There’s often a simpler solution to your comfort problem. Maybe you can find the answer you’re looking for in our FAQ below!
-
What is water treatment?
Water treatment refers to equipment or chemical products designed to enhance the taste and cleanliness of potable water. A whole-home water filter system and water softeners are the most popular options. Both options are capable of filtering out contaminants, positively impacting taste, color and even cleanliness.
-
Is a whole-house water filter system worthwhile?
If you live in an area with more minerals in the water supply, a whole-house water filtration system is the perfect tool in your arsenal to improve water quality. Adding a water treatment system can be especially useful if you live close to manufacturing, mining or agriculture industries.
-
Do I actually need to get a home water treatment system?
You may want to consider a water treatment system if you’re constantly struggling with soap scum, spotty dishes or even just an unpleasant taste. You can find out for sure by scheduling a free water test from our Experts.
-
How does a home water treatment system work?
Many home filtration products rely on a variety of designs to capture pollutants and sediment. This can mean mechanical filtration, which means sediment and other particles are physically stopped by the treatment system. Mechanical filtration may be used in tandem with a reverse osmosis membrane, another clever design perfect for eliminating organic chemicals and microorganisms. Certain kinds of treatment products even use ultraviolet light for its sanitizing properties.
-
How do water softeners work?
Water softeners utilize a tank filled with special beads of resin to attract and trap the minerals that harden your water, such as calcium and magnesium. Hard water enters the tank, where minerals are gradually absorbed by the beads. The now-softened water is then available for use. These beads won’t always work as efficiently as they did at the beginning, so a salt solution is pumped into the tank. Thanks to the natural process of sodium ion exchange, the sodium molecules displace the minerals from the beads before they are drained from your water supply entirely.
-
What’s the best method for treating water at home?
Your ideal water treatment system can be determined by factors like where you live and your specific water needs. Those with delicate health might do best with a whole-home filtration system, while those dealing with hard water might want to think about installing a softener system. The Expert plumbers at A1 Chesney Service Experts can offer tailored suggestions concerning which product(s) would be perfect for your plumbing.

What is a Diagnostic Fee?
A diagnostic fee, also known as a service call fee, is a common charge used by HVAC companies once someone is called out to your home to diagnose the root cause of what’s affecting your HVAC system. The service call charge covers the technician’s time, experience and any gas or other travel expenses associated with assessing the problem. It’s in essence a service fee for the technician’s professional evaluation to pinpoint the cause of the malfunction.
It’s like a visit to the doctor’s office. They must do some preliminary tests or an examination to understand what’s wrong before recommending treatment. Just the same, your HVAC professional must inspect your system to decide on the needed repairs or maintenance.
