Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are getting through the last of the weeks of winter but we still are relying on our furnaces, especially during cool nights. Not much is worse than laying down at night just to realize your furnace won’t kick on. If this happens to you, here are a couple things you can check yourself before your call A1 Chesney Service Experts.

Check Air Filters

You should swap out standard air filters every 30 days. If you fail to do so, they can end up clogged, blocking air flow and resulting in a furnace malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Try turning the temperature up a few degrees to get the furnace to kick on. If the current room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t run. Also, make sure the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem ridiculous, but verify the power switch next to the furnace is “On.” Even gas heating equipment uses electricity so confirm the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch has not been accidently flipped to the “Off” position.

If you review all these things and your furnace will still not turn on, give A1 Chesney Service Experts a call at 587-315-5271 and we’ll come out and get you taken care of as soon as possible.
