4 Tips for Furnace Repair

April 15, 2016

Springtime may technically be here but in Calgary it’s not all warm and snug outside. Your furnace has been going for months striving to keep your home comfortable, so now is the time to show your furnace some love. If you hear weird noises or the heating system has shut down, you may be in need of a furnace repair. If you notice a strong gas smell, you almost certainly need furnace repair work and you should call A1 Chesney Service Experts as soon as possible.

Before you jump to the conclusion that you need a furnace repair technician, read these tips from A1 Chesney Service Experts.

  • Confirm your thermostat is switched to “heat.”

It may sound crazy, but we get busy and life happens, so sometimes it’s easy to miss the simple fixes. Forgetting to move over the thermostat can make you assume you need furnace repair and installation when really you can fix the problem with a literal flip of the switch!

  • Check your furnace switch.

Since we’re talking about switches, make sure your furnace switch is in the up, or “on” position. As before, an easy miss, especially when you remember this switch isn’t one you tend to look at daily. Most systems have built-in delays so make sure when you turn on your furnace you give it a few minutes to get going before panicking about needing our furnace repair man.

  • Change your furnace air filter.

You should change your home’s air filters around every three months to help your system run more efficiently and prolong any furnace repair work. A filthy air filter is one of the most recurrent reasons for decreased performance in furnaces, and they can also be a breeding ground for illness causing microbes and cause you and your children to become sick. Replace your filter to keep both your furnace and your family healthy. You could also schedule annual maintenance with A1 Chesney and have a thorough furnace cleaning as part of your check up.

  • Check the circuit breaker.

Make sure your circuit breaker (the one that controls your furnace) is in the “off” position and not the middle. If the breaker has been moved to the middle for some reason, move the breaker to “off” and then push it back to the “on” position.

Furnace repairs get to be expensive, so avoid a future issue altogether with regular maintenance from A1 Chesney Service Experts. However, if you are ever in need of furnace repair, we are available 24/7/365 to provide all your heating needs.
