Last year we published several of the most common air conditioning problems Calgary faces, but now we’re back with some frequent AC issues that you can help troubleshoot.
The A/C is on but not putting out cool air.
If your A/C system is running but not truly cooling, you might need to have your refrigerant levels examined. Refrigerant is important to make sure the air blowing from the AC is truly cool and keeps your family comfortable. Low refrigerant is frequently a sign of a leak or that the system wasn’t charged correctly.
One way to see if you are low on refrigerant is to go to your A/C system and locate the two copper pipes. If the large one is “sweating” or covered in condensation, touch the pipe to feel if it’s cold. If it feels cold, you are likely good to go and don’t require additional refrigerant.
If you’re not convinced or the pipe is not producing condensation and is not cold to the touch, call A1 Chesney Service Experts and we’ll come out and check your refrigerant levels and discover why your air conditioner is not blowing cool air. Remember, only an EPA Certified technician should handle refrigerant for central air conditioning systems, due to the risks of handling this potentially dangerous chemical.
You air condenser fan isn’t turning.
There are multiple reasons your condenser fan might not be turning. One might be that it merely burned out and you require a replacement. Humidity generally causes more condensation so another issue could be that the water is not draining properly or that the drain is blocked. If you can confirm these things, you may be able to find the issue; but, if not, give A1 Chesney Service Experts a call and we can look into what is keeping your condenser fan from circulating and review your options to get your AC problem corrected.
Your air conditioner is not providing ample air cooling.
It sounds crazy, but try lowering your thermostat. It seems silly but sometimes our busy lives cause us to miss the obvious. If dropping the temperature doesn’t get your system working right, check and get a new air filter. If the air filter is obstructed, it could cause major cooling problems. Another problem that could be causing your lack of cooling is an air conditioner that is not sized correctly, and unfortunately this is a frequent issue when homes are constructed. A1 Chesney Service Experts is happy to come out and perform an analysis to confirm whether or not the size of your AC is causing your issues.
AC shuts on and off over and over
If your A/C system is short cycling, or turning on or off consistently, it could mean one of many things. One thing is that your condenser or evaporator is obstructed or dirty and should be cleaned. Once the condenser and/or evaporator is cleaned and all obstructions moved away, you may be back to a regular running system. Note that humidity also plays a role so if your home cools to the desired temperatures, but then the humidity causes your house to heat up quickly, this could cause an on-again, off-again AC because it’s having to work harder to keep your home cool and comfortable.
No matter your problem, whatever typical or atypical air conditioning problem you run into, A1 Chesney Service Experts is here for you around the clock. We are available all the time so we can get your air conditioner cooling and get your home comfortable lickety-split.
